SPQR takes place in Rome between 69 - 40 BC, during the fall of the Republic.
There is no proper jurisdictive system established, justice is dependent on arguments and political power. The decisions of the player affect relations with the different factions in Rome.
The player assumes the role of an ex legionnaire returning home after the battle of Tigranocerta.
Back in Rome, he finds work as a detective for the lawyer and politician Cicero.
In his service he investigates criminal cases and brings them to court.
Over time the player will unveil an overarching conspiracy involving the fabled sibylline books and the lost heir of King Tarquinius Superbus
